WHAT IS GYROTONIC®

WHAT IS PILATES?
The Pilates training system uses specially designed spring resistance-based equipment or specialized mat exercises to develop core and full body strength. Emphases build a strong, supported, yet supple spine. Gradually the entire body is challenged to connect to this strength. Thus, the entire body becomes stronger and more integrated.
Primary benefits include:
- Lengthened, strengthened muscles
- Heightened coordination and balance
- Sharpened mental focus
- Corrected posture and structural integrity through the application of alignment principles
- Restored function and integration of all physiological systems: muscular, skeletal, respiratory, circulatory, nervous

WHO IS IT GOOD FOR?

Applications compliment most activities including dance, golf, skiing, swimming, and most competitive sports. Rehabilitative applications are endless, including joint-replacement rehabilitation, scoliosis therapy or simply aiding someone who works at a computer all day find relief from neck and back pain. Everyone can truly benefit from these tandem systems.
IS THERE EQUIPMENT?
GYROTONIC® primarily uses the Pulley Tower Combination Unit. Light resistance guides you through a flowing, three-dimensional workout that will involve and stimulate the entire body. Exercises are executed sitting, standing, lying down or kneeling, and are adaptable depending goals, needs or capabilities.
The Pilates system primarily uses the reformer, a spring-loaded resistance apparatus, which systemically works the body in a linear manner. Exercises are again performed lying, standing, kneeling, etc. These, too, are adaptable and are progressively designed so that clients proceed at an individual pace.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Comfortable, non-restrictive clothes and socks are all that is needed. If shorts are worn, choose those with a lining as some exercises are done with the legs overhead.
HOW LONG IS A SESSION?
Each session is 55 minutes in length.
WHEN WILL I FEEL A DIFFERENCE? HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GO?
Progress is very individual. However, as with any physical activity, the more often you participate, the more progress you achieve. Once a week on a consistent basis is suggested as a minimum. Two or three sessions per week are not uncommon. Quick answer, most individuals begin to sense changes in the way they stand and carry themselves within weeks of consistent training. After your first session, you may notice yourself standing taller.
